OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Two people wounded during Wednesday's shooting rampage at an Omaha shopping mall remain hospitalized at local trauma centers.
At least two victims were released after treatment of injuries that ranged from gunshot wounds to facial cuts.
Seven people, including shooter Robert "Robbie" Hawkins, died in the Von Maur store at Westroads Mall. Two others were pronounced dead at Creighton University Medical Center.
Fred Wilson, 61, of Omaha suffered a gunshot wound in the upper left chest/shoulder area, which severed an artery and led to severe blood loss, according to Dr. Joseph Stothert of Nebraska Medical Center.
"He basically bled out his entire blood volume," Stothert said, adding that Wilson had some brain activity but no blood pressure when he arrived at the hospital extension rack.
Wilson was listed in serious condition on Thursday. Doctors were unsure whether Wilson would be able to use his left arm in the future.
Dr. Leon Sykes, trauma director at Creighton, said Thursday that 65-year-old Micky Oldham was in stable condition in the intensive-care unit.
The Omaha woman had surgery Wednesday to repair injuries from extension rackgunshot wounds to the abdomen and back. Sykes said additional surgery, including plastic surgery, may be necessary.
"Both of the injuries caused a great deal of soft-tissue damage," he said.
Sykes said store employee Gary Joy, 56, of Omaha was dead when he arrived at the hospital. Details of his injuries were not released.
Medical personnel at the scene and at Creighton tried to revive 47-year-old Beverly Flynn of Omaha, but she never regained consciousness. Sykes said she was shot in the chest.
Nebraska Medical Center also treated Omaha attorney Jeff Schaffart, who was hit by two bullets, one in the upper left arm and another that grazed his left pinkie finger. The 34-year-old was released Wednesday.
A third victim, a 55-year-old man, was also treated and released Wednesday afternoon. A hospital spokesman said the man, whose name was not released, suffered cuts to his face from running into a clothing extensionrack while fleeing.
Police identified one of the wounded as 55-year-old Brad Stafford of Omaha, but it was not clear whether he was the patient treated at the Nebraska Medical Center.
