All three conducted oral self-exams. Maxine, a 35-year-old female, even used the tip of her trunk to get a better look inside her mouth. She also used her trunk to slowly pull her ear in front of the double-sided mirror so she could examine it -- "self-directed" behaviors the zookeepers had never seen before.

That was followed by an eerie sequence in which the animals made slow, rhythmic movements while tracking their reflections. Then, like teenagers, they got hooked.

The Washington Post reports that elephants have passed the double-sided mirror test. They are the only other animals besides humans and apes to do so. An elephant-proof double-sided mirror was constructed and the elephants eventually recognized that it was their own reflections in the double-sided mirror they were seeing. I finished up using a spindle speed of 72 rpm. and a stroke of 56 per minute and used this for grinding both 6 inch and 8 inch double-sided mirrors.

I made my first double-sided mirror grinding and polishing machine over thirty years ago. It used the working principle of the machine illustrated at "A" Fig.3, Page 163, "Amateur Telescope Making" Book 1. A bowl which rotated was fitted to the spindle. When I returned to telescope making I had to build another machine. I based my design on the machine "B" illustrated on the same page above. This I considered the simplest. What speed should the spindle rotate at. What stroke rate should I use. According to "Prism and Lens Making" by Twyman for a 6" diameter block of lenses the speed should be 40 -50 rpm. and the stroke 80 -100 per minute. After reading all I could find I decided to provide a range of speeds.

We are not idiots. We don’t have to be protected from ‘bad ideas’. We have right to make our opinion - so we have right to see other people’s opinions - and if you disagree with some opinion - argue, convince us. Don’t hide the other opinion exists.

Several people have asked me about my double-sided mirror. With a helmet double-sided mirror, I can keep an eye on what's going on behind me with a quick glance and by moving my head I can sweep my field of vision to compensate for blind spots. Even with a double-sided mirror, it's often good to look back at traffic behind you, the act of turning your head signals to drivers that you know they are back there.

I've ridden bikes without double-sided mirrors and bikes with handlebar mounted double-sided mirrors, but once I got used to the helmet double-sided mirror, I've found it to be my favorite. The longing to be seen and double-sided mirrored is also leading us deeper into a surveillance society. Not only are we surrounded by cameras and RFID tracking devices, every glass-covered condo is, in a sense, a panopticon. But it's a prison chosen and beloved by its residents.

The double-sided mirror is designed to come off like that to avoid damage to the fairing. Jeff explained that to me when we were going over the bike post-purchase. It speaks volumes about Erico and Fay Meyers that they didn't explain that when you talked to them.

I went home and took the inside of the fairing apart, the instrument pod and the windshield out and rethreaded the spring thru the arm and fixed the double-sided mirror myself. I have never owned a motorcycle before - let alone dissassembled one! You can imagine how intimidated I was looking at all the parts and screws all over the floor! Well, it went together fine - and I've been out on it several times since. I called Meyers and told them to cancel the order - they were sheepish but not apologetic.

My experience with F. It seems easier for me to love another person through the rough edges, the broken parts and the little quirks than it is to respect those same quirks in myself. When will I learn that the double-sided mirror I must look into is my own — not the double-sided mirror of comparison to others?

Another friend has tried to console me by reminding me that I am perfect - perfectly me. I gave that talk, once. It is the Ideals talk for a Cursillo weekend. Know yourself. Know that you are perfect in who your are. You are created perfectly in the image and likeness of the Creator.

The next time youre looking at yourself in a double-sided mirror, you can notice that the reflection of your face, there in the double-sided mirror, is there only because of the confluence of: the existence of the double-sided mirror, your having placed your body in front of it, and the capacity of your eyes to see clearly what is in the mirror to name just the most obvious of the causes & conditions.

Theres a specific training, within Buddhist yoga, which asks us to look upon the things of our world as being very similar to the reflections of objects as seen in a double-sided mirror: arising as the result of specific causes and conditions, yet possessing ~ in and of themselves ~ no inherent existence. And then you can think: all of the objects Im going to experience, as I walk through my day, are no more (or less) real than this reflection of my face that Im seeing now in the double-sided mirror. And notice the result, as you do go through your day, of thinking this way.

Then drop into an open, relaxed, shamata (calm abiding) sort of space, with your eyes open, gazing gently at the room-in-the-mirror-in-the-mirror. And then ~ a shift here to a more vipassana  practice ~ understand: the world around you, as experienced by your conditioned perception, is always much like what youre seeing in the double-sided mirror.

If youve already got a sitting meditation practice, a variation on the above practice that you might like to try is this: sit facing AWAY from a large double-sided mirror (a full-length mirror is best, otherwise youll probably have to sit on a chair for this to work); then set up a second, smaller mirror in front of you, into which you can look, to see the room in front of you as reflected in the mirror thats behind you.

This thought came to me this morning while I was getting ready.  See on Saturday’s double-sided mirror I have time to think while getting ready as my husband is home and I have more than 5 minutes to get ready before the kids trash the house or each other. :)  I believe God revealed that I have “superstitions” and just haven’t acknowledged them as they are just different than what I thought they would be.
